ODEO Electronic Visual Distress SOS Signal Flare

The ODEO SOS is certified to meet US Coast Guard requirements which means it can be used (with the provided distress flag) instead of pyrotechnic flares in some countries (USA, Tasmania, Australia & Finland).

The ODEO SOS is a high-intensity strobe light providing a high-intensity internationally recognised SOS morse signal.

The ODEO SOS lasts up to 9 hours further increasing chances of rescue and survival. Meeting the USCG requirements of 46 CFR 161.013 the ODEO SOS is approved as a nighttime visual distress signal.

With the orange distress flag provided, which meets the requirements of 46 CFR 160.072 the daytime visual distress signal requirements are also met (for carriage and approval of day and night distress signals.

The unit is waterproof to 5m and has been tested to IP68. The design of the ODEO SOS ensures that the visual signal can be seen both by surface rescue craft and aircraft flying overhead.

This coupled with its long-lasting performance gives users the most chance of being seen and rescued.

Installation
The ODEO SOS can be held by hand in an emergency situation or fitted to a lifejacket using the velcro strap. The distress flag can also be used by hand, or be flown by attaching to the mast or hoisting to the highest point possible. The flag is only valid as a daytime signal.

Designed for lifesaving situations as a collision warning or to pinpoint your position in a distress situation.

The ODEO SOS gives a very effective visual signal for position indication and its powerful output and long life means it can be activated and no further action is required.

It will continue to flash your position for up to 9 hours. For the US waters having the ODEO SOS means that boaters no longer require pyrotechnic flares on vessels up to 65’ in length.

Also within 12 miles of US waters, on bodies of water with a passageway to the sea at least two miles wide or the Great Lakes. Vessels <16’ do not require the distress flag but still require the ODEO SOS as a nighttime visual distress signal.

Power supply

The ODEO SOS uses 4 x AA L91 lithium batteries. These batteries have the required shelf life and power capacity and will operate over an extended temperature range. Lithium provides superior duration, especially in cold conditions
